SWIECIE INVESTS IN LIGHTWEIGHT KRAFTLINER
The Mondi group plans to boost production of unbleached kraftliner at its Frantschach Swiecie plant in northern Poland. The 120,000 tonne/yr machine manufactures 90-140 g/m^sup 2^ unbleached kraftliner and 60-90 g/m^sup 2^ unbleached sack kraft paper. Kraftliner currently makes up just 10-20% of production, but this will rise to 20-50% following the rebuild.
Frantschach Swiecie hopes to tap into growing demand for kraftliner in lower basis weights through the project. The German firm, Kusters is set to supply the equipment. The project, which also includes a rebuild of PM 1′s reel transportation line, will cost Euro 4 million ($5 million). Mondi will also install a new soft calender on the mill’s PM 1 in December, which will improve the quality of the unit’s output.
